Man City sign striker Donyoh

Manchester City: Have immediately loaned Donyoh to Djurgarden

The 18-year-old has immediately been loaned out to Swedish side Djurgarden for the rest of the year.

Djurgarden manager Magnus Pehrsson said: "The combination that Donyoh is a talented player who fits into our style of play, and that Manchester City believes in him, makes him an interesting addition to our squad."

Milan complete Balotelli deal

Mario Balotelli: Warm words for Roberto Mancini

The Italy striker, who previously played for Milan's rivals Inter, returns to San Siro on a deal until June 2017.

City confirmed Balotelli's exit on their website and the 22-year-old, who won the FA Cup and the Premier League in his two full seasons but made many headlines for his disciplinary problems, thanked manager Roberto Mancini for standing by him.

He said: "I love Roberto, he has been very important for my career, and I will always thank him for having trust and faith in me.

"Being at City was an important part of my life and career. I needed to grow up like a player and as a person and it has been a very good experience for me.

"I will remember, too, the song that City fans had for me. It was special for me and I always liked to hear it. I hope they can still sing it sometimes.

"I will always be interested in Manchester City and their fortunes. I really hope that City can win the league again this year and beat United. I t hink there are great players at the club and a great manager too."

Mancini said: "We are very sorry for him because he leaves the club but we hope Mario can continue to improve and continues to work hard because he is a top, top player."

Derry relishing deadline day show

Shaun Derry: Looking forward to deadline day action

Redknapp has made no secret of his desire to bring new faces to the west Londoners, who are bottom of the Premier League and four points adrift of safety.

Full-back Yun Suk-young joined Loic Remy and Tal Ben Haim as QPR's acquisitions so far this month, but Redknapp revealed he is still "desperately short" after Tuesday night's 0-0 draw with Manchester City.

"I'm sure there will be a few arrivals and some going out," Derry said. "We have got no say in that as players, we can only do what is asked

"I am always glued to the TV on deadline day. I'm like a fan.

"It is exciting to watch it and I will be interested who we bring in.

"Obviously Harry is wanting to enhance the squad. That's what he's about on deadline day - he comes to life, doesn't he? I'm sure he will be excited come Thursday.

"But as far as being in trouble if we don't add to the squad, we've proved against Manchester City that we can get a result against the leagu e champions with the players we've already got. We can take great heart from that."

A key priority for Redknapp will be strengthening at centre-back, with Anzhi defender Christopher Samba poised to complete a move after the Hoops triggered his release clause.

The former Blackburn defender could now be on his way back to the Premier League as QPR look to fill the void left by Anton Ferdinand's loan move to Bursaspor and Ryan Nelsen's impending departure.

The New Zealander is set to leave the Rs on February 1 to become head coach of Toronto FC and was given a guard of honour after helping the Hoops to a clean sheet against City.

"It is a big loss for us," Derry said. "He has been our best player this year but we have to try and replace him.

"He has been amazing, not just as a player, but as a person as well.

"It was Clint Hill's idea to give him a guard of honour at the end.

"We were all just buzzing to get the point and it was a great gesture by Clint. It was appreciated by Ryan, but he's appreciated by all of us.

"He said afterwards that he couldn't believe the send-off he got from the crowd too because he's barely played 25 games for us. It was touching for Ryan."

QPR's performance against the reigning champions was a vast improvement on the embarrassing 4-2 FA Cup defeat to MK Dons, after which reports claimed there was a dressing room bust-up.

"Listen, things get said after games in changing rooms up and down the country, the length and breadth," Derry said.

"Things get said in the heat of the moment.

"We were disappointed going out of the cup, we really were, and the way we went out was even more disappointing than the result itself.

"I think we proved a point against City. That performance showed everybody we are together.

"I'm from the old school and I like to discuss both positives and negatives.

"Obviously when you come off the field losing 4-2 in the manner that we did, we had to reply in the right manner against Manchester City and we definitely showed that."

Transfer news: Mario Balotelli 'ran to Milan' from Manchester City

Mario Balotelli: Manchester City striker set to complete his move to AC Milan

The enigmatic Italy international flew into Milan's Malpensa airport prior to undergoing a medical after the two clubs agreed a fee for the 22-year-old on Tuesday.

Balotelli, who moved to the Premier League from Inter Milan in August 2010, is expected to put pen-to-paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The striker has endured a miserable time with City this season, scoring just one Premier League goal, and with his last start coming in the 3-2 derby defeat by Manchester United on 9 December, when he was hauled off after 52 minutes by a clearly frustrated Roberto Mancini.

Balotelli is confident he will rediscover his best form away from the Etihad Stadium and is hoping that he will receive nothing but the full backing of the Milan supporters.

Speaking to the Milan Channel, he admitted: "I ran to Milan.

"I had wanted to play here for a long time. The start of this season was negative, bu t with this jersey I will do better.

"I made some important choices, so I hope they can bring good luck to me and the team. I just want the fans to love me."

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has admitted the transfer is a 'dream come true' and believes the arrival of Balotelli can only drive the Italian giants on to greater heights.

Galliani told the club's official website: "It is a dream come true and something that we all wanted, with the president Silvio Berlusconi at the forefront.

"With the arrival of Mario, we have strengthened our team a lot.

"We have worked so hard and Mario has been in our hearts for a long time and finally we have succeeded in signing him."

Lescott admits City disappointment

Joleon Lescott: Disappointed with draw at QPR

QPR's defensive resilience frustrated City on Tuesday night, meaning league leaders Manchester United could go seven points clear with a win against Southampton on Wednesday night.

"Of course we are disappointed not to narrow the gap," defender Joleon Lescott told CityTV.

"We need to start winning games and put the pressure on them, especially if we play before them.

"We couldn't have won the league tonight and certainly can't lose it so we just have to keep on going.

"We need to concentrate on our own games and if they do slip up we need to put ourselves in a position to be there."

Mario set for Milan medical

Mario Balotelli: Joining AC Milan

The City striker has flown out to Italy after a deal was agreed with the Serie A giants that will end one of the most controversial Premier League careers.

"Transfer agreement for Balotelli signed with Manchester City," said Milan director Umberto Gandini on Twitter.

"Medicals tomorrow in Milan, then personal terms until 2017 signing."

It is believed Milan have agreed to pay around 20million for the player, with some of the fee being made up by bonuses.

City have so far made no comment on the matter.

As contracts are yet to be signed, a degree of caution is understandable.

However, providing there are no unforeseen hitches, Balotelli will join Milan ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline, thus ending a remarkable two-and-a-half-year stay with the Blues during which time the forward has attracted almost as many headlines for off-the-field incidents as success on it.

A member of City's starting line-up in the 2011 FA Cup final, when they ended a 35-year wait for a trophy, Balotelli also provided the crucial injury-time pass that set up Sergio Aguero for the dramatic Premier League title-winning goal at the Etihad Stadium last May.

Yet that momentous afternoon came just five weeks after manager Roberto Mancini had said Balotelli would never play for City again after the striker was sent off at Arsenal, having managed to avoid a red card for a dreadful challenge on Alex Song.

Such lapses in professionalism have scarred Balotelli's time with the Blues.

There have been numerous training ground bust-ups; only recently he had to be separated from his manager after he lunged in on Scott Sinclair, while his petulant on-pitch behaviour led to City imposing a fine which he threatened to challenge at a Premier League tribunal until finally backing down in December.

Through most of the controversy, Mancini has stood by a player he has paid special attention to since they were together at Inter Milan.

And, until this season, Balotelli's contribution on the pitch has been enough to keep Mancini and the City supporters on his side.

However, after returning from Euro 2012 with his reputation enhanced by a series of impressive performances, most notably the semi-final win against Germany when he scored twice, he has made negligible impact on the Blues' title defence.

He has made just two substitute appearances since a dire performance against Manchester United at the beginning of December, when he was handed a surprise start, but did little of note before being substituted in the second half.

Though Mancini and assistant David Platt have repeatedly stressed since then that Balotelli is going nowhere, rumours of a move to Italy have gained strength.

And now all that is required are the final touches to be put to the transfer of a player many will ultimately feel has been more trouble than he is worth.

Gael Clichy hopes Manchester City can force Manchester United to slip up

Gael Clichy: Hopes City are making United nervous again this year

United currently sit five points clear at the top of the table but City have the chance to slice that lead to two points when they visit QPR on Tuesday, with the Red Devils playing a day later at home to Southampton.

Roberto Mancini's men will be encouraged by last term, when United let their lead slip away in the final weeks of the season, allowing City to clinch the trophy on the final day of the campaign.

United defender Patrice Evra admitted last week that part of his side's problem last season was a preoccupation with their neighbours which made them lose focus, though insisted they will have no such problem this year.

However, rival left-back Clichy is hoping City can get under their skin once again.

He told The Times: "I was surprised he (Evra) said that because a club like them know how to win titles in this league.

"It was good to hear because it meant we are progressing and that any team, even if it's United, can ge t a bit nervous when they feel the pressure of someone behind them, breathing down their neck and saying, 'I'm going to be right behind you if you make a mistake'.

"It's probably a bit different for them because it's two clubs from the same city, whereas Arsenal and Chelsea (their main rivals in the past) are from London.

"I'm not saying United should be scared, but they should be a bit worried because we will be there until the end of this season again.

"We expected United to come back strongly. It will have hurt them for us to win the title like we did with the last kick of the final game, but we are confident and we remember what happened last time."

Difference

Clichy feels the arrival of Robin van Persie at Manchester United from Arsenal in the summer has made a massive difference to their season.

The Dutchman has already scored 22 goals in 28 appearances for United and Clichy added: "A player like Robin is a player that any man ager would like to have.

"I'm sure the boss is disappointed about missing out on him when you see the season he is having so far."

Platt dampens Balotelli exit link

Mario Balotelli: Fresh links with AC Milan

City manager Roberto Mancini has consistently said his fellow Italian is not for sale throughout this month's transfer window but that has not quashed rumours linking him with the San Siro giants.

Milan have made their liking for the 22-year-old clear but have previously baulked at City's reported 28million valuation.

Now fresh reports have emerged claiming negotiations between the clubs have begun but City's public message on the matter has not changed.

First-team coach David Platt said: "I saw that speculation (on Sunday) but I've not heard anything.

"As far as we are concerned I think he is still a Manchester City player. I don't think anything is going to happen."

Possible last game for QPR's Ryan Nelsen: Manchester City missing Vincent Kompany

Ryan Nelsen: Possible farewell for QPR defender

Nelsen, who Toronto want to start work as their manager on Friday, and striker Loic Remy were both rested for Saturday's FA Cup defeat to MK Dons, but are likely to feature in tomorrow's game against the champions at Loftus Road.

Junior Hoilett (hamstring), Shaun Wright-Phillips (knock), Bobby Zamora (hip) are doubts, while Samba Diakite is at the Africa Cup of Nations and long-term absentee Andrew Johnson (knee) remains sidelined.

Manchester City have central defensive concerns ahead of their Premier League trip to Loftus Road with captain Vincent Kompany ruled out with a calf injury.

Matija Nastasic (knee) is also doubtful while Kolo Toure remains on duty at the Africa Cup of Nations along with brother and midfielder Yaya Toure.

Forwards Mario Balotelli and Samir Nasri have recovered from illness but full-backs Maicon and Micah Richards (both knee) are not yet ready to return.

Milan and Juve in Balotelli hunt

Mario Balotelli: Continues to be linked with a return to Italy

The controversial striker has been continually linked with Milan throughout the current transfer window while Juve's interest has only just emerged.

Yet while news of the talks may increase the possibility of a sale before Thursday's transfer deadline, City are still likely to hold out for a price they believe represents good value.

As manager Roberto Mancini has maintained throughout the month, City are not actively pushing to sell. The contact is understood to have been initiated from the Italian end.

City have not yet accepted an offer for Balotelli.

Speculation in Italy has suggested Milan are prepared to pay 20million plus add-ons.

Previous reports have claimed City rate Balotelli's worth at around 28million. He cost 24million when he signed from Inter Milan in August 2010.

Contrary to some reports, Balotelli has travelled with the City squad to London for Tuesday's Barclays Premier League game at QPR.

The forward is available for the game having overcome the virus which kept him out of Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round win at Stoke.

Balotelli's future has been a matter of uncertainty since a below-par display in the derby defeat by Manchester United on December 9.

He has not started a game for the club since, first after being dropped and then because of a spell out through illness.

There have been two substitute appearances in January but he has long been fourth-choice striker behind Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko.

Balotelli's campaign as a whole has been an underwhelming one with just three goals, only one of which was in the Premier League.

There have been fewer of the off-field controversies which blighted his first two seasons at City this term, but that was forgotten after a high-profile training-ground bust-up with Mancini earlier this month.

Yet even as many observers were claiming that incident had to be the final straw for Mancini, the fiercely loyal manager himself said he was prepared to give him "another 100 chances".

Mancini has also stated repeatedly that Balotelli will not be leaving that club and pointed out that, with three years left on his contract, his former Inter protege remains a big part of his plans.

But it did not quell persistent rumours from Italy suggesting that Milan would make a move, nor did conflicting statements from senior figures at the San Siro.

Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has been quoted describing Balotelli as a "rotten apple" and that the club cannot pay "Monopoly money" for him in recent weeks. Chief executive Adriano Galliani has also made regular statements about the player.

It now remains to be seen whether they or Juventus can push through a deal of sufficient value to City and, if so, in time for them to find an adequate replacement.

Whether or not Balotelli plays, the matter is likely to be raised in the aftermath of the game at Loftus Road as the transfer window enters its final 24 hours.

One important player who will not feature against the bottom side is captain Vincent Kompany, who limped off with a calf strain in the first half at the Britannia Stadium.

Kompany is also doubtful for Sunday's home clash with Liverpool and, with the defender having been troubled by similar injuries in the past, assistant boss David Platt admits there is a worry.

Platt said: "It is a concern that it's not a fresh injury. The calf is the strangest muscle - there is probably more re-occurrence than with hamstrings, groins and things like that.

"And it has happened on a couple of occasions, but the concern is to make sure we clear the problem and that is what we will be working through."

City, short on defensive options with Kolo Toure at the African Nations Cup, are hoping Matija Nastasic can overcome a minor knee problem to return alongside Joleon Lescott.

Alt ernatives include 18-year-old Karim Rekik, midfielders Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell or playing a three-man defence.

With leaders Manchester United not in action until Wednesday, City can apply pressure to their rivals by cutting their lead at the top of the table to two points with victory over Harry Redknapp's QPR.

Transfer news: Manchester City 'in talks' over Mario Balotelli with AC Milan

Mario Balotelli: Has made just two appearances for Manchester City this year

Roberto Mancini has consistently rubbished speculation linking Balotelli with a return to Italy, and as recently as Monday morning Mancini's assistant David Platt played down the prospect of a deal before Thursday's transfer deadline.

But the latest reports from Italy suggest Milan have made a breakthrough in their attempts to sign the striker.

There has been no official comment from City, and even Platt was in the dark when he stood in for Mancini at a press conference ahead of Tuesday's trip to QPR.

He said: "We've three days left before the deadline, but I haven't heard anything, to be honest. It's speculation.

"It's a shame Robbie's not here, because he might know a lot more than me. As far as we're concerned, he's still a Manchester City player. I'm not aware of any negotiation."

Balotelli, who previously played for Milan's rivals Inter, was labelled a "bad apple" by the club's owner Silvio Berlusconi earlier this seaso n after a series of disciplinary problems during his two-and-a-half-years in England.

But neither that outburst, nor Berlusconi's claim last week that the 22-year-old is out of Milan's price range, has killed off talk of an imminent deal.

Wabara could extend Latics stay

Reece Wabara: Successful stint at Boundary Park

The Latics secured an extension to Wabara's stay at Boundary Park to take in Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool and he did not disappoint, heading the vital third goal to crown an excellent individual display as Paul Dickov's men held out for a famous 3-2 triumph.

The England Under-20 defender has made 29 appearances for the League One outfit this season and Platt is impressed with his progress.

He said: "His loan had finished and they asked to extend it so he could play the game, so to get the winning goal is terrific.

"Reece needed to play matches at a higher level than reserve games, he's taken his opportunity and done very well.

"We'll have to see what happens."

Webb missed Whelan tackle - GB

Glenn Whelan: Tackle on Javi Garcia escaped punishment

Stoke midfielder Whelan escaped punishment for a two-footed challenge on City's Garcia in the 47th minute of the FA Cup fourth-round tie between the sides at the Britannia Stadium.

Webb took no action, not even awarding a free-kick for a tackle ITV analyst Andy Townsend described as a "red card every day".

Webb was close to the incident but the position of Garcia on the ground may have impeded his view of the moment of contact.

When asked about it, Barry said: "I'm not too sure. I think the referee said at the time - I spoke to him and he said he didn't have the right angle on it but Javi, in the changing room, said the player went in with both feet and caught his ankle so I think they showed that on TV too."

With the incident going unpunished at the time, there is a possibility the Football Association could take retrospective action.

The governing body will be able to determine that after receiving the referee's report.

The important factor will be whether Webb saw the incident or not.

Barry said: "I think there is a case. I think it's the rule now that if the referee doesn't see it but reports it, then they can have another look at it.

"But I don't want to speak badly against Glenn Whelan. He's a great pro and I'm sure he went for the ball."

It is the second time this month controversy has surrounded a tackle in a City match after captain Vincent Kompany was sent off at Arsenal a fortnight ago. City successfully appealed against that red card and had a ban overturned.

But City are again facing the prospect of a spell without Kompany after the Belgian suffered a calf strain in the first half at the Britannia.

The club are still to learn the full extent of the problem but the defender has already been ruled out of Tuesday's trip to QPR.

Barry said: "It was a little setback, mid-game, especially against a side like Stoke.

"Vinny's a big loss, but the lads who've come in have done a great job.

"I think his calf has been niggling him for a little while so this was one game too far.

"It's not ideal, so he'll have to have a scan and see how long he'll be out."

Leeds were rewarded for their 2-1 win over Tottenham with a trip to the Etihad Stadium for a tough tie against Roberto Mancini's Premier League kings.

Luton, who claimed a famous 1-0 win at Norwich on Saturday, missed out on a plum draw with a top Premier League side as they got Millwall at home.

Oldham, the League One side who stunned Liverpool 3-2 on Sunday, were handed the Reds' Merseyside rivals Everton at home in the next round.

Manchester United were drawn to face Reading at Old Trafford, while Arsenal also got a home tie, against Championship outfit Blackburn.

Milan keen to sign Balotelli

Mario Balotelli: Talks are understood to be continuing between Milan and Man Cit

While no formal offer has been made, it is believed that talks are continuing between both clubs and Balotelli's agent.

Manchester City have maintained throughout this window that Balotelli will not be sold in January.

The Italian has regularly been linked with a move back to his homeland since arriving at City in the summer of 2010, and Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri was questioned on his interest in the striker after side's 1-0 victory over Atalanta on Sunday.

Allegri was reluctant to discuss another club's player but admitted he was an admirer and indicated that Balotelli's controversial character would not be a problem.

"Balotelli? I won't think about him because he is a Manchester City player," Allegri told Sky Italia.

"If he arrives here, then I'll consider how to approach him. Obviously, I wouldn't say no.

"We are setting up a good, disciplined group and that is important in a difficult League like Serie A."

Zabaleta: We played perfect game

Pablo Zabaleta: Hailed team effort

The tireless right-back, who is enjoying an outstanding season for the Premier League champions, settled a gritty fourth-round tie with the only goal late on at the Britannia Stadium.

It was fine reward for another non-stop performance from the Argentinian but, in keeping with most of the others, he was unwilling to claim all the limelight for himself.

The 28-year-old said: "I think it was well deserved for the team. I think we did a great game.

"We knew it was going to be tough. It has always been a difficult pitch for us in the last few years.

"But I think we played a fantastic game. We were very solid at the back. We worked really well as a team.

"We created a lot of chances. I think it was the perfect game for us."

Manager Roberto Mancini rotated his full-backs throughout last season's title-winning campaign but injuries to Micah Richards and Maicon have almost made Zabaleta a permanent fixture this term.

He has ar guably been City's most consistent player and his goal was his third of the season.

Yet when asked if this was his best year since joining the club from Espanyol in 2008, Zabaleta was again modest.

He told City TV: "Probably, I think it is one of the best seasons for me since I signed for Manchester City.

"I am always trying to improve myself on everything but also I have to say I am playing with great players around me. That makes every player better."

Zabaleta struck in the 85th minute to settle an underwhelming contest.

He was in the right place to tuck home six yards out after a ball from Sergio Aguero was helped on by Edin Dzeko.

It was City's first win at the Britannia Stadium in seven visits but they had been the stronger side and hit the woodwork through David Silva during a dominant spell in the first half.

Carlos Tevez also twice went close but City's momentum was slowed after captain Vincent Kompany limped off after the half-hour, forcing a change of system.

With no senior centre-half on the bench, Mancini switched to a three-man back line but Matija Nastasic could return alongside Joleon Lescott for Tuesday's Premier League trip to QPR.

The extent of Kompany's calf strain is not yet known but he is definitely out of the midweek game.

City were already short on centre-back options with Kolo Toure at the African Nations Cup and Richards still sidelined.

The second half was a scrappy affair but City always looked the sharper, particularly after Aguero came on, although Peter Crouch headed narrowly over.

Zabaleta said: "We were very solid in set-pieces. We knew they always try to get something from corners, set-pieces and throw-ins - I think we did fantastic.

"Up front we were sharp and created chances. We couldn't score more goals but at the end we won it.

"This is the most important. Now we must be focused on QPR away."

Manchester City's Pablo Zabaleta strikes late to knock Stoke out of FA Cup

Man City had to battle hard for their 1-0 victory over Stoke in the FA Cup

It looked like being a frustrating afternoon for Roberto Mancini's men in a repeat of the 2011 final, with Stoke battling hard but also enjoying good fortune when a bad foul by Glenn Whelan went unpunished by referee Howard Webb.

But Man City, who lost Vincent Kompany to injury, grabbed a winner in the 85th minute as Zabaleta slotted a shot past Thomas Sorensen with the outside of his boot following a fast break.

Overnight snowfall at the Britannia Stadium left the ground staff with a lot of work to do in the morning to get the pitch ready for play, and Stoke were nearly caught cold when the game kicked off as Man City began brightly and Carlos Tevez tested Sorensen's reflexes with a firm shot from a tight angle.

Edin Dzeko had an effort charged down by Ryan Shawcross, before David Silva came close to breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute with a curling shot which crashed off the post.

The presence of both Matthew Etherington and Michae l Kightly in the Stoke line-up provided an extra threat down the flanks but, apart from one occasion when Shawcross had a goal disallowed for offside, stand-in Man City keeper Costel Pantilimon was not unduly troubled by the home side in the first half.

Kompany signalled to the bench that he needed to come off before the break and the Potters appeared to grow in confidence, with the Blues reverting to three at the back as Gael Clichy came on after a lengthy period of thinking time by Mancini and David Platt.

The Blues continued to play more fluently than their opponents and Tevez should have done better when he fired wide at the back post following a slick attack.

Stoke were lucky not to be reduced to ten men early in the second period as Whelan jumped in two-footed on Javi Garcia and caught the Spaniard on the ankle, but referee Webb did not even brandish a yellow.

Aleksandar Kolarov was replaced by Sergio Aguero just after the hour mark and the Premier League champions started to commit more men forward, with Sorensen rushing off his line to deny Gareth Barry after he had been played in behind the Stoke defence by an exquisite pass from Silva.

Dzeko and Tevez shot wide and Cameron Jerome saw a weak effort held by Pantilimon as the match became stretched in the closing stages, and it was Man City who finally provided the cutting edge with five minutes remaining.

Zabaleta struck with a fine finish to cap an impressive individual performance, and Man City held on in the final few minutes to end Stoke's FA Cup dreams.

Mario Balotelli's agent has refused to rule out a move away from Manchester City

Mario Balotelli: Still being linked with a move away from Manchester City

The striker was not involved in City's FA Cup win over Stoke on Saturday, fuelling more speculation over the Italy international's long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.

City manager Roberto Mancini insisted on Friday that Balotelli was staying at the club despite being continually linked with a move to AC Milan.

However, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has left the door open for a possible move for Balotelli after ruling out deals for Real Madrid's Kaka and Didier Drogba.

"Kaka and Drogba are 101% not coming to Milan. Balotelli? He is 99.9%..." Galliani told milannews.it

It has been suggested Milan would like to sign Balotelli on loan, but the player's agent Mino Raiola has revealed City's hierarchy have ruled out the possibility of a temporary switch.

"The truth about Mario? You have to ask to others, because I cannot say it," Raiola told Radio Deejay.

"Until January 31, anything can happen, we are monitoring . We have not talked about money because there is nothing concrete yet.

"But I can rule out the loan, the City directors do not accept this solution. Also because they received a 40million (34m) offer for Mario during the European Championship."

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany facing spell on sidelines with calf injury

Vincent Kompany: Calf injury worry for Manchester City captain

Kompany limped off just past the half-hour mark at the Britannia Stadium and, according to assistant boss David Platt, faces a race against time to be fit to take on Liverpool next Sunday.

"I think we'll lose Vincent for a little while," said Platt on City's official website after the 1-0 victory in the fourth round clash.

"It's too early to say how long he will be out but he has a slight pull on his calf and will miss the midweek game.

"We will have to assess the injury over the next 24 hours to get a better picture but he won't play against QPR."

On the performance in the Potteries, which saw Pablo Zabaleta grab the only goal in the closing stages, Platt added: "We had a number of chances so we're disappointed we've not won by more but everyone knows this is a tough place to come at the best of times so we have to be happy.

"I thought our defenders were excellent today and did exactly what you need to do when facing the aerial thr eat Stoke pose so on that score, we're very happy to leave here with a clean sheet.

"It wasn't strange to see Pablo in that area because he often supports the attack and we encourage our full-backs to get forward whenever they can.

"He was in the right place and took the opportunity really well. We want to win both competitions that we're still involved in and we'll look forward to the draw on Sunday."

Manchester City's James Milner determined Stoke will not avenge cup defeat

James Milner: Relishing the prospect of facing Stoke in the FA Cup

Yaya Toure's goal was enough to end City's 35-year wait for a trophy when they beat Stoke 1-0 at Wembley in 2011.

And City make the short trip the Britannia Stadium for their fourth round tie on Saturday, with Milner already looking towards another showpiece in May.

"I'm sure Stoke would like to get one over us for the 2011 final," he said.

"But we'll be doing our best to give our supporters another day out at Wembley that's for certain."

The England midfielder is undeterred by City's record at the Britannia Stadium, where the team has not won since 1999.

"Our thinking is, if you want to win the FA Cup, you have to beat everyone anyway," said Milner.

"The fact we're taking more than 4,000 fans is really important because the Stoke supporters make a lot of noise.

"But our fans are brilliant and will give as good as they get when it comes to creating an atmosphere."

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini insists Mario Balotelli is staying at the club

Mario Balotelli: Expected to stay, says Roberto Mancini

Balotelli's future at City has been in question throughout January and reports in Italy suggest Milan remain interested in the player.

While the Serie A club have been priced out of a permanent deal for the 22-year-old, there have been fresh reports he could move on loan to the San Siro.

But Mancini insists there has been no approach for his compatriot or any other members of the City squad as he prepares his players for Saturday's FA Cup tie at Stoke.

Mancini said: "It is not true, Mario stays here. We didn't have any requests about Mario or other players."

Mancini has maintained this firm line on the possibility of Balotelli leaving the Etihad Stadium, even after a training-ground bust-up with the player earlier this month.

Milan are interested in the forward with vice-president Adriano Galliani issuing regular statements on the possibility of a deal but the club are unwilling to meet City's reported 28million valuation.

Galliani has urged City to lower the price but Mancini says he has no intention of letting his former Inter protege leave, even on loan.

When asked if Balotelli was part of his long-term plans, Mancini said: "Yes, Mario has another three years on his contract."

Mancini was speaking at a press conference to preview his side's FA fourth-round tie at Stoke.

The Balotelli subject was the first to be discussed and Mancini said: "For two years, the first question is always Mario!"

The transfer window closes next week but Mancini is not anticipating much activity.

He said: "I don't know but we don't have enough players. We are 18 players now. We can't sell any players."

When asked on the possibility of players coming in, Mancini said: "I think it is difficult."

Roberto Mancini surprised Txiki Begiristain wants Man City to play like Barcelona

Roberto Mancini: Talking tactics

Begiristain enjoyed substantial success with such a style when in an equivalent role at the Nou Camp.

Mancini claims this is not something he has discussed with Begiristain, who took up his post at City last autumn.

The Italian said: "I don't know. I speak with Txiki every day and he never told me this. We have the same thoughts about football.

"I don't think it is more important to play 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or 4-1-5, it is more important to have good players."

Mancini is a huge admirer of Barcelona but does not think it is that easy to copy them.

He said: "Everyone wants to play like Barca, but Barca is one, like Real Madrid or AC Milan.

"It is impossible to play like Barca but I think that you can win also if you play a different style."

Mancini claims he does not have any differences with Begiristain over footballing philosophy.

He added: "We are agreed about everything because we think the same. About footba ll we are the same, we don't have differences."

Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic proud to have adapted so quickly

Matija Nastasic: Did not expect success so soon

Lescott's partnership with Vincent Kompany was a key factor in City's title triumph but Nastasic has enjoyed an impressive first campaign following his arrival from Fiorentina.

And the 19-year-old Serbia international is pleased to have broken into the team and shown his ability to adapt so quickly to life in England.

"I'm very proud of that because Joleon is a great player," said Nastasic.

"But it's not really important who plays as long as the team does well. I'm very happy about the way I have adapted to English football and everything is going well for me at the moment.

"But I didn't expect it to come so soon - certainly not in the first six months. I noticed in the first couple of games that I could settle in and play, and that gave me confidence.

"My first two games gave me confidence to play because I noticed that I could cope with the Premier League.

"It's certainly a different league than Serie A in Italy. It's also very difficult to play there, but I'm happy here in English football.

"The main difference is that in Italy it's a very tactical game. Teams get a lot of players behind the ball. Here the games are more open and the challenges are stronger."

Advice

One man used to strong challenges is fellow Serb Nemanja Vidic and Nastasic revealed that the rivalry with the Manchester United skipper had not prevented his compatriot being a huge help.

"When I arrived, I asked him for advice. I spoke with him then and still speak with him," added the youngster.

"He gave me general advice, not just about football but about lifestyle and young players adapting to English football. For me, he is a great friend and a great person."

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta expected to face Stoke in FA Cup

Pablo Zabaleta: Set to face Stoke despite foot injury

The Argentina international suffered a foot injury in the 2-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday and was forced to limp off but he is confident of being available for the trip to the Potteries.

City's other first-team right-back Micah Richards is still recovering from knee surgery, so the inclusion of Zabaleta in his squad would be a boost to City manager Roberto Mancini.

"I took a kick on the top of my foot which caused me a lot of pain afterwards and that's the reason it was better that I came off," Zabaleta told the club's official website.

"It looks better today, but there is a little discomfort when I walk or run so it is a bit sore and needs to settle down a little.

"Thankfully, the scan showed there was no serious damage. I should be fine for Saturday but it will be a couple of days before it is 100 per cent again.

"I did some bike work on Monday morning and on Tuesday I will try some running so I'm sure I will be available for the game against Stoke."

'Zero chance' of Mario Balotelli leaving Manchester City this month, says his agent

Mario Balotelli: Won't be leaving Manchester City

A move back to Italy this month has been strongly rumoured with AC Milan seemingly leading the chase ahead of Inter Milan and Juventus.

But Manchester City have always stood firm, and despite the troubles with Balotelli have shown little willingness to sell.

Now Raiola has looked to put an end to the matter by confirming there are no talks about the Italy international's future with any club and that he will not be leaving the Etihad in January.

"There is no negotiation for Balotelli with any club, no meeting, zero. It seems like a Grimm Brothers' fairy tale," Raiola told Italian radio station GR Parlamento

"Manchester City won't sell Mario, let alone loan. There are zero chances he moves. But until January 31st, who knows."

He also denied that a price-tag has been placed on his head, continuing: "The 37million price? City has never asked for money because they never offered the sale of the player.

"The owners appreci ate the player and don't want to sell him. Balotelli is very quiet, obviously he's not happy about not playing but is handling the situation in a different way than in the past, not like a rotten apple."

Raiola also played down Inter's first-option on buying their former player, insisting it had little value.

"The Inter Milan right of first option? There is an agreement between the two clubs, but it does not prevent the player choosing another destination," he added.

"The people who say that this agreement has no value, are right. However, I repeat, there is no negotiation ongoing."

RM warns Kompany over tackling

Vincent Kompany: Had red card overturned for tackle on Wilshere

Kompany was controversially sent off in last week's win at Arsenal for a challenge on Jack Wilshere.

The decision of referee Mike Dean to dismiss him was widely criticised and overturned after a successful appeal by City but, although Kompany was not in the wrong, Mancini feels he should temper his approach.

The 26-year-old was also dismissed for a similar challenge in a game against Manchester United last season and the City boss does not want to keep losing his skipper.

Mancini said: "He's a defender. Sometimes when the defender is under pressure he can do a bad tackle but I think he needs to pay more attention, because this has happened two times.

"We can have a problem if we have another situation like this. I spoke with Vinny and told him to have more attention on his tackles."

Mancini does not personally have a problem with Kompany's technique or necessarily think it needs changing but, as the player did lunge towards Wilshere , he fears how referees might judge certain tackles.

Asked if he feared Kompany would lose his enthusiasm for tackling as a result of his request, Mancini said: "No, no, I don't think this but there are some situations that he can go, because like against Arsenal sometimes the referee can do a mistake, like the players.

"It is possible, like against Arsenal, the referee sees a different view from us and Vinny.

"Every tackle can be dangerous, it depends on the situation but this is football.

"I told him to pay attention and that it is better you don't go sometimes. You wait and don't do a tackle - it is better.

"I think probably he won't change his style but if he has more attention in some situations it is better."

The Kompany issue has prompted a debate on whether the art of tackling is being lost as a result of modern interpretations of rulings that protect attacking players.

Mancini hopes players are not too timid to tackle in future.

The Italian, a striker in his playing days, said: "This is the English style. This is impossible (to stop).

"Sometimes when you have strong tackles here, in Italy sometimes it would be a foul - but here no.

"Sometimes this is good. It is normal that the players continue to do a tackle."

Dzeko vows to maintain chase

Edin Dzeko: Hoping to keep the pressure on Man United

The champions continued their pursuit of rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League by easing to a fourth win in succession at the expense of Fulham.

David Silva grabbed both goals, the first inside two minutes and the second a sublime chip, in a 2-0 victory over the Cottagers at the Etihad Stadium.

City have recovered their poise since losing to United and Sunderland in December and are determined not to give up their crown without a fight.

Striker Edin Dzeko told the club's website: "We have to just keep doing what we're doing.

"I think Manchester United will drop points sooner or later but we just need to keep winning and keep the pressure on them."

City were the dominant team and although Fulham frustrated them at times in the 67 minutes between Silva's strikes, they could have won by a greater margin.

Silva was inches away from a hat-trick when he rolled a shot past the far post just moments after making i t 2-0 and late substitute Sergio Aguero had two good chances on his return from injury.

Dzeko also had opportunities, not least when he fired over from close range in injury time.

Dzeko, City's top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions this season, said: "David took his goals really well and he is disappointed he didn't maybe get a third, but I'm really pleased for him and that the team won.

"We are a bit disappointed we didn't score more goals after taking the lead so early in the game and I think if we'd scored again in the first half we'd have gone on and won by more but sometimes it doesn't pan out like that.

"We got the second at a good time so we have to be happy.

"I'm disappointed I didn't score, but I think I played okay. As long as we keep winning, I'm happy."

Silva had scored only one goal previously this season and his recent return to form has given City a lift after losing Yaya Toure for the African Nations Cup.

< p>He got on the scoresheet by pouncing when Mark Schwarzer parried a Dzeko shot and he demonstrated his class in doubling the lead by combining with Carlos Tevez and lifting a shot over the goalkeeper.

The Spaniard said: "It was great to get two goals and I had the opportunity for a third, for the hat-trick, but I didn't make contact as good as I wanted. But it is the points for the team that really matter.

"It was a good game, the important thing was to get three points and put some pressure on United."

Fulham tried to play a patient game to frustrate the hosts but, having conceded such an early goal, never truly threatened.

They created only one moment of alarm for City when Steve Sidwell glanced a header against the outside of the post from a Damien Duff cross just before half-time.

Although they look comfortable on the ball, form is a concern for the Cottagers with just two wins in their last 15 games.

But defender Matthew Briggs , who replaced Kieran Richardson at left-back in the second half and has a chance to move up the pecking order with John Arne Riise out of favour, expects it to improve.

He told Fulham's website: "I think it's only a matter of time.

"It hasn't been easy, and when you break it down like that it isn't good enough.

"I do think we have been very unlucky at times, but that's football isn't it?

"Every side goes through bad patches, and that's what we have to deal with.

"We have a lot of quality though, and I'm sure it will click into place for us.

"We need to find our feet again, we need to find the momentum that we had before.

"There are positives to be taken despite the results, and we believe we can find our form again."

Tevez set to snub City deal

Carlos Tevez: Intends to finish his career back in Argentina

City had been hoping that Tevez would agree to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, with a troubled past put to one side during contract negotiations.

Tevez has, however, snubbed the offer of a new two-year contract.

He will see out his current deal, which has 18 months left to run, but admits that he will then look to head home and link up with Boca Juniors for a second time.

Tevez said: "I've got a year left on my contract at Manchester City and they want me to sign for two more seasons.

"I would prefer to return home, but it is very difficult because City won't let me leave for nothing.

"I will stay in Europe for another two years and then go back.

"Boca's president always says the door is open for me to re-join them and I am dying to pull on their shirt once more. I want to end my career with them. It is my dream and the dream of my family as well.

"But I am under contract and have to be here in England."

Tevez has also revealed that he came closing to quitting the game last year during his now infamous spat with City boss Roberto Mancini - which led to him going AWOL.

He added: "I almost retired last year. I had lost the desire to play and spent time crying alone in my room.

"Bad things happened one after the other. I was knocked out of the Copa America with Argentina and I had my dispute with Roberto Mancini.

"I suffered psychologically. I did not want anything to do with football.

"I am much better now. I am winning people over because I began the new season well."

Joleon Lescott has no intention of leaving Manchester City

Joleon Lescott: Happy to stay at Manchester City and fight for his place

Reports during the winter transfer window have suggested that Lescott could be allowed to leave the Etihad Stadium, with Roberto Mancini currently favouring other centre-half options.

A switch to Aston Villa has been touted, with Lescott having grown up supporting the Birmingham-based club.

The England international is aware of the reports, but insists there is no substance to them.

He has offered no indication that he is looking for a move and maintains that he is prepared to stay at City and fight for a starting spot.

Lescott told the Daily Telegraph: "I came to the club to win trophies. I have done that and I feel there is a chance to win more this season.

"So I am more than happy to stay and fight for a place in the team.

"I went to see the manager about my situation and what we said will stay between us, but we both came out of the conversation happy and content with what we spoke about.

"While I would like to sta rt every game, I am also aware that, with the strength of the squad, that just isn't going to happen, but I am more than happy to play my part whenever needed."

AC Milan say Manchester City must drop asking price for Mario Balotelli

Mario Balotelli: Price too high, say AC Milan

Vice-president Adriano Galliani admits the Italian giants are interested in signing the City striker - but not for the 31million he claims the Premier League champions are demanding.

Balotelli, who is a Milan fan, has long been linked with a return to Italy, where he progressed through the ranks at Inter Milan before joining City in 2010.

Galliani said: "At the end of Friday Manchester City was still saying 37 million euros. We'll see on Monday. At that price, Balotelli will stay at Manchester City."

Balotelli's agent, Mino Raiola, spent time at Milan's headquarters on Friday, reportedly discussing a possible move.

Galliani is more hopeful of bringing Milan idol Kaka back to San Siro and is in talks with the Real Madrid player about reducing his salary.

Manchester City's David Silva takes plaudits as David Platt reflects on Fulham victory

David Platt: Predicting dropped points for City and United

The Spaniard went into the game with just one goal this season but trebled his tally with both in a 2-0 win.

Roberto Mancini's assistant said: "Last year he had a few more goals under his belt but we know how important he is whether he is scoring goals or not.

"I think his performances have been right up there. I think it would be harsh to say it has been lacking. He is in the team for all sorts of different reasons, not just his goalscoring ability.

"I think his performances of late have deserved goals. I am pleased he got the two and he should have had a third."

City - temporarily, at least - moved to within four points of leaders Manchester United, and Platt said: "We have got 15 games left. Both teams will drop points, I am sure.

"We have got to make sure we keep getting victories so if United slip up we are in a position to take advantage of that."

Premier League: David Silva bagged a brace as Manchester City saw off Fulham

David Silva: Put Manchester City ahead against Fulham after 95 seconds

City's Spanish playmaker opened the scoring with just 95 seconds on the clock at the Etihad Stadium, with an Edin Dzeko effort from the edge of the box parried into his path by Mark Schwarzer.

Silva's second of the afternoon arrived on 69 minutes, with a flowing move involving Gael Clichy and Carlos Tevez expertly finished off with a composed finish which glanced in off the post.

City looked to be in confident mood from the off and made a blistering start as Dzeko took up an early attack and was allowed to shoot from 25 yards. Schwarzer parried his fierce effort but Fulham had been caught short and Silva followed up to rifle in the rebound.

Fulham were unable to get anything going in response and Gareth Barry took command in midfield.

James Milner started to come into the game on the City right and linked well with Pablo Zabaleta before floating an inviting cross into the box but it dropped inches over Tevez's head.

The game went quiet as Fulham tried to take the pace out of City but the hosts still looked the most likely side and Tevez raced across the area before having a shot blocked by Brede Hangeland.

Fulham played a patient game and tried to build slowly but it yielded little until just after the half hour when Damien Duff found room on the right. Steve Sidwell got free at the back post and was picked out by a good cross from Duff but his glancing header struck the outside of the post.

Fulham made a positive start to the second half as they created a chance for Sidwell outside the area but he sliced well wide and City upped the tempo.

City saw Zabaleta, their only fit right-back, forced off shortly after the hour mark, but were able to cope without him for the rest of the afternoon and doubled their lead soon after his exit following some brilliant play by Tevez and Silva.

The Spaniard started the move, finding Clichy out wide and the left-back's pass inside wa s cleverly flicked back into Silva's path by Tevez. Silva then did the rest, running into the area and hitting a delicate left-foot lob over Schwarzer to score off the post.

The crowd were still celebrating the goal when Silva went close to claiming a hat-trick, running through in almost identical fashion but this time rolling a low shot inches wide of the far post.

Thereafter City were never in any danger and played plenty of possession football and almost carved out chances at will. Dzeko should have scored a third in injury time but somehow scooped over from six yards with the goal at his mercy.

Vieira chasing City dynasty

Patrick Vieira: Confident Man City can continue to challenge for top honours

The groundwork for that ambitious project has already been put in place, with City having taken steady strides forward over recent seasons.

An FA Cup success was followed by Premier League title glory in 2011/12, and the challenge now is to add to that trophy haul.

Vieira, football development executive at the Etihad, sees no reason why City cannot become a global force to be reckoned with, with long-term targets having been laid out.

"We want to build a dynasty of our own here," he told The Sun.

"We want to build a club that can win for the next 20 years and on and on. Not a club that wins for two to three years and then drops down again.

"At City we accept that we don't have the history of Manchester United - United will always be United, we know that. We give them every respect for that - they are the biggest club in this league. We can't change that overnight so the only thing we can do is challenge United for the future.

"It will take time - it's not going to happen in one or two years with one or two trophies. But things are changing, we are already getting closer to them. Remember, this season we are the champions. And we want to keep on challenging them."

He added: "We want to fight with them every season to try to win the league, to try to win the Champions League.

"That's why we are carefully putting into place the right project, the right foundations to ensure that we are successful long-term.

"We have made a start. But now we are champions there comes even more pressure. We put more pressure on our own shoulders to stay at the top. There's more pressure from supporters and there's more pressure from outside of the club.

"Every team wants to beat you, there is more coverage, more attention, more interest. You have to be able to handle that, take care of that - even down to the smallest details. So right now we have to concentrate, focus, work hard and then see what happens."

Sergio Aguero in line to return for Manchester City against Fulham

Sergio Aguero: Set to return for Manchester City against Fulham

Jack Rodwell is also in contention after recovering from a hamstring problem and Samir Nasri returns after serving a three-match suspension but City are missing Yaya and Kolo Toure and back-up striker Abdul Razak, who are at the African Cup of Nations.

Left-back Aleksandar Kolarov returned from a knee injury as a substitute against Arsenal but right-back Maicon (knee) and midfielder Micah Richards are still out.

Fulham boss Martin Jol has confirmed Dimitar Berbatov will return to his side for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

The striker was rested for Tuesday's FA Cup third-round replay win over Blackpool but Jol has said Berbatov will be named in his team.

Steve Sidwell is also available after recovering from a hamstring problem but both Mahamadou Diarra (knee) and Kerim Frei (pelvis) are still missing.

Pep talk never worried Mancini

Roberto Mancini: Was never worried about Pep talk

Even as recently as last weekend there were back-page reports claiming the in-demand former Barcelona boss was destined for the Etihad Stadium in the summer.

That will not be happening following the confirmation in midweek that Champions League-winner Guardiola, after a year-long sabbatical, will return to the game with German giants Bayern Munich next season.

While Guardiola was suggested as a possible fit for several clubs, speculation he could be City's next boss intensified after the appointment of former Barca executives Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain to senior roles at Eastlands.

But Mancini said: "I didn't have any problem for this - I understand the newspapers should write that every manager wants to take this place because it is a good place.

"But I think we work very well here, I have a five-year contract and I think this is possible for five years."

Mancini committed himself to City until 2017 after guiding them to their first league title in 44 years last summer.

At the same time, Guardiola stepped down at the Nou Camp to take a break from the game.

Mancini, at a press conference to preview City's Barclays Premier League clash with Fulham this weekend, was asked if he was surprised at Guardiola's choice of next club.

The Italian said: "I don't know - you should ask him.

"Bayern Munich is one of the top clubs in the world for its history, like Barca.

"If he decides this it is because it is the best solution for him."

Mancini sympathy for Johnson

Johnson, 24, was quietly released by City in December and has now revealed he has been receiving treatment at the Priory Clinic, which specialises in mental illnesses, for some time.

Johnson, a dynamic midfielder once tipped as a future England international and linked with a big-money move to Liverpool, fell by the wayside after being hit by a succession of injuries.

A loan move to Leicester was cut short a year ago and City reached a settlement over the remainder of a contract which was due to expire this summer.

Johnson last played for City in October 2009 and so never featured under Mancini, who took charge two months later, but the Italian is saddened by his plight.

Mancini said: "Michael Johnson was a guy with a big talent and I am sad for this, sad for him. He could do everything with his talent. I am very sorry for him. I hope he can resolve all his problems."

Such was Johnson's decline that he was nowhere to be seen when City won the Barclays Premier League last May and his removal from the first-team squad's web page before Christmas went unnoticed.

City have moved on considerably since the days when Johnson was regarded as the club's future.

Just over three years ago Vincent Kompany was not a regular in the side and was often deployed as a midfielder.

Now he is the heart of the defence and an inspirational captain.

His success this week in appealing against his sending-off in last Sunday's defeat at Arsenal was greeted by much relief at the Etihad Stadium.

A three-game suspension would have significantly weakened Mancini's central defensive options at a time when Kolo Toure is at the African Nations Cup and Micah Richards is injured.

Mancini said: "I am very pleased because I think it is correct, like this. The referee managed the game very well but, in that situation, probably he didn't see great.

"From his position he thought it was a red card but I think that tackle was not a red card.

"Sometimes it probably could be. In England, a tackle is an important moment and it is clear that there are some players that do a bad tackle and deserve a red card, but not in that case."

Kompany's dismissal was the only negative from an otherwise impressive 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium that kept Manchester United's lead at the top of the table to seven points.

City now have the chance to apply pressure to their rivals as they take on Fulham at home a day before United face a tough test at Tottenham on Sunday.

Mancini said: "Fulham are a good team, they have good players. When we played them away, we won the game in the last second.

"We played very well and deserved to win but Saturday will be a different game. They won their last game away against West Brom, they are very dangerous on counter-attack.

"Their manager has big experience and he knows he can do well. It depends on us."

City could be boosted by the return of star striker Sergio Aguero for the clash with Martin Jol's men.

The Argentinian has missed the last two games after tearing a hamstring in the New Year's Day win over Stoke.

Forward Samir Nasri is back from suspension and midfielder Jack Rodwell, out since October with the latest in a series of hamstring problems, could be on the bench.

Mancini said: "I am happy because I am sure Jack will be an important player for us in the future, because he is young.

"If we have solved his problem - his hamstring injuries have been often - he will be an important player.

"(On Saturday) he will be ready, but probably for 20 minutes, no more."

Midfield linchpin Yaya Toure is also on international duty but Richards and fellow defender Maicon are now the only injury concerns.

Mancini has again downplayed speculation he could strengthen his squad in the current transfer window.

He said: "In Janua ry it is difficult to take good players.

"Maybe we can find young players. If we have this chance in the next 10-12 days, probably we can do something but I am not sure."

Reserve team striker John Guidetti, who had a successful loan spell at Feyenoord last season but has been hampered by leg problems relating to a virus this term, has been linked with another temporary switch.

The Swede did score for City's elite development squad this week but Mancini does not expect him to move out again.

He said: "Guidetti is not ready to play in this minute. It is difficult for him to recover after his injury. I think he needs another two months."

Sir Alex Ferguson says overturning of Vincent Kompany's red card is 'very unusual'

Vincent Kompany: Manchester City captain saw his red card rescinded

The Manchester City captain was dismissed by Mike Dean at Arsenal on Sunday for what he deemed to be a dangerous tackle.

Although the incident itself was borderline, most observers believed the FA would stand behind Dean and leave Kompany to serve a three-match ban, but the disciplinary panel had other ideas and cleared the City player.

While Ferguson is wary of adding to the debate, believing his comments will be deemed biased, the Scot does feel the FA have not done themselves any favours by failing to back match officials over incidents that do not appear to be clear-cut.

"Anything I say in that situation will be regarded as biased, so I am not going to bother with it," he said.

"But it is very unusual.

"It does open the door of course, but that is their (the FA's) problem."

Rodwell could make City return

Jack Rodwell: Could be back in action for Manchester City

The 21-year-old midfielder has been earmarked for a place on the bench after three months on the sidelines with hamstring problems.

Rodwell, who has started only two Premier League games since his 12million summer move from Everton, was injured on England Under-21 duty in October.

Last season's top scorer Sergio Aguero, who tore a hamstring in the New Year's Day win over Stoke, is also fit to return.

Manager Roberto Mancini said: "I am happy because I am sure Jack will be an important player for us in the future, because he is young.

"If we have solved his problem - his hamstring injuries have been often - he will be an important player.

"Tomorrow he will be ready, but probably for 20 minutes, no more."

Rodwell was also plagued by hamstring injuries during his early career at Everton.

City are still without Yaya and Kolo Toure due to the African Nations Cup but Samir Nasri is available again after suspension.

Ri ght-backs Micah Richards and Maicon, who have knee injuries, are the only injury concerns.

Mancini said: "Sergio is fit and Jack is back. We are now missing only Micah and Maicon."

The champions' problems were also eased this week as captain Vincent Kompany succeeded in his appeal against his sending-off in last Sunday's win at Arsenal.

Kompany was facing the prospect of a three-match suspension which, during the absence of Kolo Toure, would have significantly increased Mancini's defensive concerns.

Mancini said: "I am very pleased because I think it is correct, like this.

"The referee managed the game very well but, in that situation, probably he didn't see great.

"From his position he thought it was a red card but I think that tackle was not a red card."

Inter Milan boss Andrea Stramaccioni plays down Mario Balotelli rumours

Andrea Stramaccioni: Has played down Mario Balotelli rumours

The Nerazzurri are reported to be interested in re-signing the controversial Italian striker in the wake of his training-ground bust-up with Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini.

Sporting director Piero Ausilio revealed last week that Inter have a buy-back option on Balotelli - inserted when they sold him to City in August 2010 - but Stramaccioni insisted he has not been involved in a move for the 22-year-old.

He told Mediaset Premium: "Balotelli? Let's ask the president or the sporting director, but it's a negotiation far from us."

Despite Inter's claims of a buy-back clause, city rivals AC Milan remain strong contenders to sign Balotelli, while Serie A champions Juventus are also said to be interested.

Prem trio will play in Hong Kong

City: Will contest Asia Trophy in summer

The three clubs will compete alongside local side - and Spurs partner club - South China FC at the biennial pre-season tournament from July 24-27.

It will be City's second appearance in the knockout event having previously played in Thailand in 2005, when they finished third.

Spurs were last involved in 2009, when they beat Hull in the final, while Sunderland will be making a first appearance.

City manager Roberto Mancini said: "The Barclays Asia Trophy will be a fantastic challenge for Manchester City.

"It gives us the opportunity to showcase the club's footballing talent to our supporters in Hong Kong, which is such a vibrant venue to host a high quality tournament like this."

It will be City's second successive pre-season trip to the Far East after touring China and Malaysia last year.

Spurs also see it as a good opportunity to spread their global profile, having visited the United States and South Africa in recent years.< /p>

They have also enjoyed a successful relationship with South China FC since 2009.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas said: "Over the past few years, we have seen a significant increase in the levels of support the club has across the region.

"This tournament presents us with an opportunity to thank those fans, as well as introducing new fans to Tottenham Hotspur.

"We are also delighted to have the chance to compete alongside South China FC - a club with which we already enjoy a special relationship."

Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill believes his side will benefit from the trip.

He said: "The stature and prestige of the event is such that, when invited, we readily accepted.

"Hong Kong's reputation as a brilliant venue is also growing tall and we are all looking forward to competing against such very strong opposition on our Barclays Asia Trophy debut."

Hong Kong has twice staged the tournament before, in 2007 and 2011, and all match es will be played at the national stadium.

The Asia Trophy is the only tournament held outside of the UK affiliated to the Premier League, which has previously floated the idea of playing competitive fixtures abroad - the so-called "39th" games.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "We are hugely excited at the Premier League to be bringing the Barclays Asia Trophy back to Hong Kong for a third time.

"The 2011 tournament was without doubt our most successful to date and the atmosphere inside the Hong Kong Stadium on both nights was particularly memorable."

Carlos Tevez considering offer of contract extension at Manchester City

Carlos Tevez: Enjoying life at Manchester City again

The 28-year-old, who missed much of last season due to a dispute with manager Roberto Mancini, has 18 months remaining on his deal and claims the club want him to stay until 2016.

"I've one year left on my deal and City want me to sign for two more seasons. I'll think about it," said Tevez, quoted in The Sun.

"This year is different from last, when I wanted to end the contract with City. I'm happy here as they're treating me well.

"Sometimes I play, sometimes I don't, but that's OK."

A new deal for the former Manchester United and West Ham forward would complete a remarkable turnaround for the player at the Etihad Stadium after last season's lengthy absence.

But the link up with fellow Argentina international Sergio Aguero looks to have helped Tevez feel at home at City once again.

He added: "We are having a good time with him not only on the pitch but also outside as we play golf together."

FSF wants 20 away ticket cap

Emirates Stadium: City fans asked to pay £62

Called the 'Score Campaign', the scheme comes days after the furore caused by upwards of 900 tickets being returned by Manchester City fans, who refused to pay 62 to watch their team at Arsenal.

Speaking on behalf of the FSF, deputy chair Martin O'Hara said: "Those who follow their team away are the distilled essence of the football fan - the hardcore. Without away fans the atmosphere at games dies and football loses a large part of what makes it so special.

"Travelling supporters spend the most time and money on their team and that deserves recognition and reward. In the short term clubs might make a few extra quid by squeezing away fans dry but long-term vision is required.

"Away attendances are in decline and something must be done by the clubs before that becomes terminal. Who wants to go to games without away fans, games without passion?

"We believe that an away ticket price cap of 20 would make football more affordable and halt the d ecline in away fan attendances. The Score Campaign aims to make this a reality."

The FSF say one of their recent surveys revealed that nine out of 10 fans feel ticket prices are currently too high.

Silvio says sorry for Mario slur

Silvio Berlusconi: Says sorry for rotten apple slur

The former Inter Milan player has been linked with a January return to the San Siro after finding his chances limited at the Etihad Stadium, with a number of high-profile incidents heightening speculation he could soon call time on a two-and-a-half-year spell in Manchester.

But Berlusconi appeared to dispel any thoughts of a potential bid for the 22-year-old last week by calling Balotelli "a rotten apple", a phrase he retracted on Monday night.

Speaking to Sky Italia, he said: "What I said was based on the fact that I feel positive people are useful in the changing room.

"I was not referring to Balotelli and I apologise if it is was taken as a slur against him.

"Could he still come to Milan? No one from my club has held any talks with him, and neither (vice-president Adriano) Galliani or I has identified him as a transfer target."

At last week's Ballon d'Or ceremony, Berlusconi had told reporters: "The name of Balotelli never came i nto my thoughts, he is a rotten apple and could infect every group where he goes, even Milan."

Milan appeared to be freeing up funds in a bid to capture the Italy international, a self-professed Rossoneri fan, by selling Alexandre Pato and Robinho to Corinthians and Santos respectively.

The former completed a 15million euro move but talks over Robinho's return to Brazil fell through, leaving Milan with four senior strikers and insufficient resources to prise Balotelli away from City for a reported asking price of 25million.

The Serie A club could still move for Empoli defender Riccardo Saponara or World Cup winner Cristian Zaccardo of Parma, though.

When asked whether Milan were likely to bolster their squad before the end of the current transfer window, Berlusconi tried hard to keep his own counsel.

"I hope so," he added. "I am pestering Galliani because there are a few players I would like us to sign, ones we could bring in by the end of January.

"I won't name names, I've been told not to. Galliani told me, 'President, don't name names if you want us to succeed'."

Leigh Griffiths and Ryan McGivern staying on loan at Hibernian for rest of season

Leigh Griffiths: Staying at Hibs until end of season

Griffiths has scored 14 goals on loan at Easter Road so far this season made his Scotland debut against Luxembourg in November.

McGivern, 23, has made 14 appearances since arriving on loan in August.

Pat Fenlon told Hibernian's official website: "We are delighted to be able to keep both players until the end of the season.

"Both Leigh and Ryan have made massive contributions to the team and have been good for us.

"We've already said that we would do everything we could to keep them at Hibernian and fortunately all that hard work has come to fruition.

"This news gives everybody connected to the club a boost as we return after the winter break for Saturday's home game against Dundee."

Hibs last week said Griffiths would be the subject of a private disciplinary process as police began investigating an alleged racist tweet sent by the 22-year-old.

The lifelong Hibernian supporter, whose Wolves contract expires at the end o f the season, had happier discussions with the club on Wednesday.

Griffiths said: "This season has been the most enjoyable of my career so far and I'm really pleased to be staying at Hibs."

Hibs remain in talks over extending a third loan spell with the future of Honduras midfielder Jorge Claros in the hands of parent club Motagua.

But they tied up a third deal on Wednesday as second-choice goalkeeper Sean Murdoch extended his contract until May.

Fenlon said: "This was another deal we were keen to tie up and Sean has been a good professional around the club.

"He has been on the bench and made a positive contribution in training sessions. We're pleased he will continue to provide experienced cover for Ben Williams."

Johnson wants to be left alone

Michael Johnson: Recently released by Manchester City

The 24-year-old has also revealed he has been receiving treatment at the Priory Clinic, which specialises in mental illnesses, for "a number of years".

Johnson, once tipped as a future England midfielder, was released by City in December after struggling for fitness.

He had not played for the club since October 2009 after being blighted by a succession of injuries, including a ruptured cruciate ligament.

A loan spell at Leicester last season was cut short and there were rumours that he lacked the dedication of a top-flight footballer.

City did not publicise Johnson's release at the time but news of it emerged this week and it now seems his career could be over.

Johnson told the Manchester Evening News: "I am more disappointed than anyone but that's the way it goes.

"I have been attending the Priory clinic for a number of years now with regard to my mental health and would be grateful if I could now be left alone to live the r est of my life."

Tevez gets six-month driving ban

Tevez: Must pay a total in fines of £1,540

The 28-year-old Argentina international failed to understand the word "constabulary" on official letters from the police, a court heard on Wednesday.

Tevez was disqualified from driving and ordered to pay a total in fines and costs of 1,540 at a hearing at Manchester Magistrates' Court.

The striker, who did not attend the hearing in person, pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to furnish information which relate to incidents in which his car was clocked speeding.

The court heard he received letters from the police in relation to the offences but he failed to respond because he did not recognise the word constabulary.

Tevez also admitted not having a proper UK driving licence, but denied he was driving when his car was caught speeding.

The footballer's solicitor, Gwyn Lewis, told the court: "He does understand the word 'police', but not more complicated words. The letters are written from Cheshire Constabulary and the word police doesn't appear on it anywhere."

He said that was also the case in relation to the speeding office in Morecambe, which was pursued by Lancashire Constabulary.

"The word constabulary is not one that is recognised internationally, but of course police is," Mr Lewis said.

"The correspondence was not dealt with properly and that has resulted in these offences."

When discussing the possibility of a fine, Mr Lewis told the bench: "He is a footballer and in that regard he is relatively well paid."

The court ordered that the disqualification period would start from November 26, last year, when an interim driving ban was imposed on the player.

Tevez, from Alderley Edge, Cheshire, mimicked driving a vehicle after he scored twice in his team's Premier League win at home to Aston Villa on November 17 last year.

Last November Lancaster magistrates imposed an interim ban on him after he failed to provide information when his car was clocked doing 39mph in a 30mph zone in Morecambe, Lancashire, on March 28 - the night he played for City's reserves against Morecambe Reserves.

The court heard he failed to respond to letters sent to him by police on April 3 and May 4.

Mr Lewis told the court his client accepted he did not provide identification - which carries six penalty points - and that under the totting up procedure he was now liable for disqualification.

The court heard that Tevez's Hummer vehicle was also clocked doing 66mph in a 50mph zone in Crewe, Cheshire, on May 8 and that he again failed to respond to letters from the police about it.

On November 15, last year, his Porsche Panamera was impounded in Manchester as he could not produce a full UK driving licence.

The car was seized under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act in a routine patrol near to the Britannia Airport Hotel.

Tess Kenyon, prosecuting, said police pulled the car over after they checked it on the p olice system and it was found that Tevez was listed as a provisional driving licence holder and he was not displaying L-plates.

He was spoken to at the side of the road with the aid of a Spanish interpreter, the court heard.

He was then summonsed for driving otherwise in accordance with a driving licence.

Three years ago - when he was playing for City's rivals Manchester United - his Bentley Continental GT Speed was impounded in similar circumstances.

The Bentley was removed by police near to junction six of the M60 in February 2009 after it was found he did not have a full UK driving licence.

As an Argentinian driving licence holder, Tevez is permitted to drive in Britain for the first 12 months of his stay in the country but is then required to apply for a provisional licence and pass the UK driving theory and practical test.

Mr Lewis said the theory test will be problematic for his client as it is normally conducted in English.

The centre forward joined West Ham in 2006 and then moved to Manchester United a season later. He signed for Manchester City in the summer of 2009.

Zabaleta keen to keep heat on

Pablo Zabaleta: Wants run of victories

Both sides won difficult fixtures at the weekend with United beating Liverpool 2-1 and reigning champions City easing past Arsenal 2-0 at The Emirates.

Those results mean Sir Alex Ferguson's side still hold a seven-point lead at the top of the table but Zabaleta reckons a decent run of form could see City close up and overtake United, like they did in dramatic fashion last season.

"We know that we are up against a rival in United who are in a very good moment," he said. "They have seven points more, but that is not much in this league. There is still a long way before the title is decided and there is still a margin to lose and recover.

"We hope United have a few games where they lose some points and we continue on this route, taking three points all the time."

Zabaleta's team-mate David Silva also knows what has to be done and admits losing just one game between now and the end of the season could cost the champions their title.

Wh en asked if there was a sense that City could not lose again this year he said: "Yes, because if we lose, then suddenly the gap is 10 points, and that is when it gets really difficult. "But if we keep fighting, we hope that they will falter."

United took control of the title race with a last-minute winner in last month's derby at the Etihad Stadium but Spain international Silva thinks City will continue to put pressure on the 19-time league champions.

He said: "All we can do, whatever the gap is, is keep going, every game, and put them under the pressure of knowing that if they lose a game or drop any points, we will get closer to them.

"That works the other way, of course, too, because if we lose we will get further away, but we cannot think about that. We just have to continue as we are. The league is still there to be won."

Emirates linesman stood down for telling Manchester City players to thank fans

Fan protests against the price of match tickets

John Brooks was heard on camera telling Joe Hart and Joleon Lescott to go show their appreciation to the supporters who had paid 62 for a match ticket.

However, Brooks appears to have been punished for his actions after he was stood down for this evening's third round replay at the Hawthorns.

City had sent back nearly 1,000 unsold tickets for Sunday's match while supporters held up banners in protest at the game saying: "Don't price us out of our game or lose more fans" and "62! Where will it stop?".

Meanwhile, Arsenal have explained why a steward at the Emirates removed one of the banners from a fan who was protesting at the high ticket prices.

A club spokesman says the banner was confiscated because it impeded the view of others, and for no other reason.

Rosell: City fished for Barca staff

Sandro Rosell: Reveals City's 'fishing'

Rosell says the Barclays Premier League champions have not only tried to sign players from all levels of the club's structure, but also other employees of the Catalan giants.

Former Barcelona directors Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain are now at City as chief executive and director of football respectively.

Rosell, speaking to RAC1 and quoted in Marca, said: "There have been some offensive approaches from City, at all levels of the structure of the club, but no one wants to go.

"They wanted to fish here, but there were no fish left."

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not planning to leave St Etienne until the summer

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Plans to see out the season in France

Quotes attributed to Aubameyang over the weekend saw him linked with Manchester giants City and United.

The Gabon international is also understood to be attracting interest from Newcastle, who are in the market for a new forward after offloading Demba Ba to Chelsea.

Aubameyang has made no secret of his desire to test himself at a higher level in the future, with England his most likely destination.

He has, however, been quick to point out that he has no desire to secure a switch during the winter transfer window, and he has no intention of relaxing that stance.

"I say it again, I am not thinking about leaving," Aubameyang told L'Equipe.

"I have a lot of interest, but the best solution is to stay at St Etienne and leave in the summer.

"It is very clear in my mind that these will be my last six months with St Etienne. Then, I don't know.

"It is nice to already have offers from England and I hope to leave for a club that will allow me to keep improving. There could be a surprise, but I am not planning on staying in France."
